Violin and bow maker. Son of Louis Gaillard, below. First apprentice of Gand in Paris. Established there independently, initially in the Faubourg Poissonnière, and from 1865 at 20 rue Notre-Dame de Rouvrance. Teacher of Dugad. Fine work in the Gand style, some modelled on Guarneri. Varnished generally without shading or artificial ageing; thin textured orange-brown colour. Small violas notable (back length: 39cm; 153/8”). Bows branded: GAILLARD PARIS.
