Guarneri del Gesu’s “Cannone" Recreated by the Genoese Master

Guarneri del Gesu 'Cannone' (Il Cannone), the beloved instrument of the great violinist Niccolò Paganini, is probably the most famous violin instrument in history. After Paganini's death, the magnificent instrument is preserved in the "Paganini Room" in the Palazzo Tursi in Genoa.
Paolo de Barbieri (1889-1962) was one of the leading makers of the Modern Genoese school, and the majority of over 350 pieces that he produced during his lifetime were modelled on the II Cannone.

His brother-in-law and production mentor, Cesare Candi, was a remarkable figure who undertook the management and maintenance of the II Cannone. With this background, Barbieri produced numerous outstanding violins with meticulous craftsmanship.

This model, which echoes the characteristic appearance of the II Cannone, is a concert violin with a well-balanced high to low register, and has a bright tone which also has richness in its sound quality.
