Welcome to Bunkyo Gakki, Stringed Instruments Museum shop!
Bunkyo Gakki is one of the longest established violin shop in Japan. As one of the worldwide dealers in fine stringed instruments, we offer violins, violas, cellos and doublebasses, ranging from 18th century instruments that includes masterworks of Stradivari and Guarneri to good quality instruments for beginners. We also deal with a wide selection of bows.
The concept of our shop is “Museum Shop” for stringed instruments where you can enjoy yourself and find something interesting. We invite you to our shop on the internet;
Entrance
Our shop is located in Hongo area, Bunkyo Ward, one of the quietest residential area in Tokyo. In front of our shop, you can find a 600-year-old tree, the biggest in Bunkyo-ku area as a landmark. Also at the back of the shop you can see the traditional Japanese style “Segawa house” that is registered as a cultural property.
Museum Space
We always display our collection of string instruments as an exhibition. It includes not only violin, viola or cello but also traditional stringed instruments such as viola da gamba, baroque lute and mandolin. We hope you’ll enjoy our collection.
Library Space
We have a range of valuable books and catalogues about stringed instruments and violin making.
Antique Space
We have sets of antiqued furniture that was bought from British violin dealers.
Try-out Room
We have a quiet room for trying out.
Workshop
We have an open-style violin workshop. You can see us repair or restore instruments with high-level skill as an worldwide expert dealer.
Lounge
We have a cozy lounge area for our customers. You can spend time there over a cup of coffee.
